The power of small things.
I thought I needed major help, but I gained my focus back by mastering the small things.
Ever since I was young, I have struggled with ADHD.
I remember my mom giving me medicine to help me get through school because it was so hard for me to pay attention in class.
Sitting at my desk, I constantly struggled to focus on what the teacher was saying. My mind would wander, and simply listening felt like a major challenge. I spent years feeling like I was constantly falling behind.
It wasn't until I started working as a delivery driver that everything finally fell into place.
In my job, I have to organize my truck and deliver packages all day long. If I tried to deliver every package at once, I would fail. Instead, I have to handle each package one at a time. I have to look at the address, check the route, and place that single box on the porch before moving to the next one.
I realized that life works the same way.
If I just stop or slow down and focus on the small things in life and just really be aware of what is happening around me, you know, just simply take it in, it is kind of like taking one day at a time without worrying about tomorrow. You can get so much done.
You can focus more because we as humans were created to focus on just one thing at a time. You can get a lot of things done when you just slow down and focus on the small things, and that is really where this new book comes from.
Here is a little bit about my new book. It is not necessarily for people who just like to read. It is for those who want to stop procrastinating and finally get things done by focusing on one small thing at a time.
Today is all you have because tomorrow does not exist. If you are intentional with the day the Lord gave you, you can actually do what God has called you to do.
Out of this difficult season working as a delivery driver, this book was born.
I am currently working on becoming a better speaker, a better writer, and I am working toward becoming a pastor. To be honest, I don’t always know the next step or how to get there. I just know that I am taking it one day at a time. You can do the same.
If you take one step at a time, you can finish your race.
That is what this book is about.
If you are the kind of person who wants to step out of your comfort zone and stop procrastinating, just understand that everything comes down to one thing: one small choice. You have to want to change.
If you do not make that decision, you have to understand that indecision is a decision in itself. I just noticed that time never stops and it will not wait for you. If you want to achieve great things, it all starts with the small things.
That is what my new book, Handle Your Purpose, is about. I received great support from former MLB player Andre David and Dr. Delphina JOYce Avia Insights From JOY who believed in my work. I believe that if you are called to glorify God in the things you are doing, you can absolutely do it.
But you have to want it.

I learned something from this article. Concentrating on one small thing at a time. As a PhD student in my final year, this struck a chord with me because we use this strategy in our research, but reading it again provides more than just motivation and inspiration. It's like being renewed and pushed forward. I love the message, and your beautiful work continues to change people's lives. I hope to listen to your sermons as a pastor someday. Stay blessed, Mat!
Sounds like a solid approach to continuing to move forward in a way that works for a lot of people. Small steps and staying focused and giving back to others. Love to hear more about your journey along the way!
